Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books by Azar Nafisi

5.0

Starts a bit slow, but picks up as the book fills in the backstory for women's life in Iran and shows the need built into us for art and literature. Nafisi uses classics in literature to illustrate various dynamics in daily life for women in Iran. The book helped me to understand why the protests are going on in Iran right now, and illustrated what happens when a society is deprived of art and self-expression.
