Good Girl by Anna Fitzpatrick

funny lighthearted medium-paced

4.0

Lucy tries so hard to be good. She was always a good student, tries to be a good friend, a good citizen, a good feminist, and now she wants a lover who will give her a good beating, preferably after tying her up. But then Lucy hooks up with someone who challenges her to pursue the writing career she has been letting idle. When she discovers a teen magazine from the 1970s, it sparks her imagination and her life finally seems to come into focus; but as she learns more about how women were treated behind the scenes, she has to decide what to do and figure out how she fits into a world where the rules keep changing.

Right off the bat we’re thrown into a saucy scene which sets the tone for Good Girl which I immediately loved! The main character felt so real to me, a young woman trying to find her place in the world with interests that society deems taboo.

The writing was immersive and enthralling, getting to the core of what makes humans tick. The cherry on top was that Lucy worked at a bookstore, so many references to experiences I’ve had with customer service and bookstores specifically, hilarious!

This is @flyingbooks_to ‘s second novel and I’m happy to report - I enjoyed both (pictured in the photo). I’m looking forward to the next, 4✨ for Good Girl.
