Lie to Me by Molly McAdams
2.0
This story had so much potential, but the FMC ruined everything, and since this is mainly her story than this story had no chance after all.
What made me give up on her completely was when he was opening up to her, telling her that once he was engaged and she reacted like he had told her that he cheated on her.
How immature can someone be? Well, sometimes there's no limit.
I tried to overlook the way she treated him constantly because she had her traumas, but it was just too much.
This book is for people who love groveling. This man groveled for no reason because he did nothing. She was just taking her traumas out on him because he was a man.
Interestingly enough, her mom was the cause of all the bad things that happened to her, but she had no problem with motherly figures or women.
They saw each other one time and it was insta-love?!
How? Because of the way she treated him constantly since day one, I did not see the reason for the man to keep going after her. I like my MMC with some self-respect, too.
Even when the FMC has traumas and because of said traumas, she doesn't feel safe to start something, there needs to be some kind of affection occasionally.
You can't touch? Understandable! But at least a descent conversation where she doesn't flip out on him just because he needs to happen to indulge the reader. They couldn't talk for more than five lines without her going nuts for her own personal reasons.
How can you explain a man head over heels for a woman who never gave him one kind word or one ounce of affection?
There needs to be a balance for someone to stay interested in, and in this story, I did not see the connection. Just her saying occasionally, "I don't want to want you," is not enough to encourage someone to crawl after you like a puppy.
Her inner monologue was repetitive.
So... yeah, not for me.
