This was an epic story, following different timelines, dimensions, and worlds. It’s fast-paced, exciting, and you really connect with the characters.
The strongest parts were Oliver and Nate stories. Their writing and character development felt the most rooted in the story, and you understand their motives and what’s at stake for them.
Maddie (the mother), however, is cliche, immature, and can be really corny. There are moments when she’s a successful character, but a bunch of her dialogue and internal thoughts get in the way of the enjoyment.
Another big issue I had was the dialogue. Often, it was heavy-handed and cliche. I wish there were more moments where the characters could take a breath or spend some time in their head in reflection.
I almost felt like the pace was too fast. Every line had to be “and then this happened” or “and I saw X character do…” This could’ve been a great trilogy or two-part series. Again, if there were moments of quiet, we could’ve been a bit more grounded with the characters.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I’d probably read another one by this author.
