The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie
4.0

This was my first Agatha Christie, and indeed my first mystery novel in more than ten years, and it was an absolutely delightful little read. Hastings' narration is so delightfully judgemental in a way that comes across as quite funny. Poirot himself is just this wonderfully gay little Belgian who absolutely lights up the page. His secretiveness could have been annoying, but it was instead endearing. The narration was snappy and every word felt like it had its purpose. I never quite knew where the story was going, but felt like the whole mess of things was tied up quite neatly at the end--though I feel like perhaps it was a touch more complicated than necessary. The layers, they just kept going...

Anyway, lots of fun, and I'll definitely be continuing with the series.
