sylviahayes 's review for:
Half of a Yellow Sun
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This book had a slow start but turned into a page-turner. It's an extremely heavy book about heavy subjects, specifically, the subject of war. I don't recommend it, but I do respect what the author wanted to say, and I agree the historical event deserves not to be forgotten or overlooked.
This book contains multiple and graphic depictions of decapitation, children dying of starvation, and women being gang raped. If I had read it in any other context I would've put it down. Since I am reading it as part of a book club with very old and intimate friends, I had the motivation to see it through to the end and look for the deep pictures and messages.
