this book was beautiful. the letters exchanged between iris and roman were gorgeously written, and it did enemies to lovers good. the world-building was okay, complicated but also weirdly simple and not hard to understand. i still have unanswered questions about how the magic works, though maybe it will be covered/explained in the sequel. however i don't know if i care enough about the characters to want to read the sequel; there were times where i was absolutely invested, and times where i wasn't as invested. toward the end i kind of lost a little bit of interest because it was getting sort of predictable? i don't know. it's a tricky one, but we'll see.
i do think this novel is a really good introduction to fantasy romance, though. it's easy enough to get your head around and apart from my personal qualms, i can see that the characters are loveable.
