Bone Crossed was such a letdown coming from Iron Kissed. Such a stark difference.
Iron Kissed had such a strong plot with compelling side characters and it kept me guessing through the whole book.
Bone Crossed came in hot with Mercy's mom's random visit, a plea to help with ghosts from her old rooommate, and Stephan dropped on her doorstep (ripped apart by Marsilia and her seethe).
But it turned into such a MESS. The vampire part closed up relatively easily, mom left (maybe Briggs was just setting her up for something in the future?), and Mercy finds the ghost and leaves.
3/4 of this book felt like I was pulling teeth to find something interesting or good in the plot. There was a lot of potential, but it fell really flat for me. The last 1/4 was pretty good, but man-where was all of that stuff through the rest of it? Blackwood was a good villain and a little more work through the book would have made it 1000x better than slapping him in the last quarter of the book.
I'm on a journey here, so we'll see where it goes. I'm disappointed the series is uneven. Books 2 & 3 were really good so I hoped we were in for a good time. Maybe we'll see something better in the other books.
