The Divorce by Nicole Strycharz
2.0
I really tried to be invested in the main characters of this book, truly I did. I read it as part of a book club and was determined to finish it. (Which I did)
During the first few chapters, I had to repeatedly check just to be sure Meghan Quinn wasn't the author, because this FMC is so clumsy, quirky, and annoyingly neurotic it definitely could've been one of her characters.
The meat of the story is an impending divorce after two years of a sexless, demeaning relationship for the FMC. The problem with this scenario isn't necessarily the husband who is supposedly a demon in the sack, and who's just forgotten he has a smoking hot wife (which we hear about on REPEAT for the entire duration of the book)no...it's the fact that she's a quack who has made herself a doormat for 7 years, and is still surprised when he wipes his feet.
There is endless amounts of Other Man drama,a serious simp who *surprise* lets her walk all over him, just in different ways than she has been in her own poor relationship.
Now,I could deal with all of this and still try to find some redeeming qualities in the Main Characters to grab hold of and enjoy..but, the main problem I have,is the shocking lack of groveling in this book. Missed opportunity for sure! I'm talking, zero "I'm sorry's". Total denial for a good 80% of the book.
There are one or two anticlimactic smut scenes in this book that amount to absolutely nothing, and by the time it concluded, you weren't invested enough to care about the outcome of the relationship in question.
No real closure with the family members featured in the story. The OM walks off into the sunset alone, and he's never acknowledged or mentioned in any way again. Just plain odd...
Overall,I gave the book 2 ⭐ because it did have some humor that I enjoyed, and I can appreciate the attempt to write a compelling story about Divorce. I won't be reading book 2.
