The Devil in the Kitchen: Sex, Pain, Madness and the Making of a Great Chef
by Marco Pierre White
There's actually very little sex or madness. Or pain really. What this book really is about is Marco Pierre White's drive to earn three Michelin stars.
There's some dish (Gordon Ramsey gets some of the piss taken out of him, for sure) and scandal. But what makes this worth reading is how White's background and development in the kitchen got him to a place where earning those three stars (and he was the youngest chef to ever accomplish that) was a possibility. It's about drive and creativity and passion and discipline -- and burning out.
