I really wanted to give the book a higher rating but sadly, the writer failed in the first 10 pages. He never checked his own bias and sadly, it affected his credibility.

Bias is an amazing thing.  The writer mentions very early in the book that very few women were painters (artists) in a particular time period. Then he mentions that there are no famous women forgers caught during said time.

Imagine my astonishment when he concluded that there were no women forgers and not that they were never caught or nobody ever admitted that it was a woman that was the forger. This is how one gets bad research, science and how it gets reinforced.

As if men had monopoly on crime. Or talent.

After that I stopped reading the book until I got a copy for my bff, who is an art expert, to read it with me, because I didn't trust the author anymore. Even for the things he is allegedly an expert of and in.

So there is that. An entertaining read but forever marred.

I did enjoy the book. My art expert friend helped elaborate on plenty of stuff and I did learn a lot more than what I expected, because of her expert knowledge.
