Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett

4.0

Jenn Bennett's contemporaries are some of the most unique ones out there. They always just include so many out of the ordinary aspects that add a lot of whimsy. For example:

- Birdie and her grandfather both have narcolepsy.
- Daniel lives in a co-housing community thing and house-sits in a house that only has green furniture, floors, and ceilings. Also, he does magic and lost hearing in one ear because of a little magic accident.
- Birdie's guardian/aunt/friend Mona lives in an old movie theater and wears fun wigs and costumes on the regular. Mona was a legend.
- Birdie and Daniel work the graveyard shift at a hotel, they go on a date to a live murder mystery dinner modeled after the game Clue, and they eat pie at a cute diner that Birdie used to live above.
- Birdie is obsessed with mysteries, so she and Daniel embark on a real one. Turns out, all along,
Spoiler Daniel knew that the author they were hunting was actually his father! Also, before they worked together, Birdie and Daniel slept together as strangers in his car, but then she ran away. Whoops.

There are just so many locations, character traits, and scenarios that add so much to all of Bennett's books. This was highly entertaining and even though I didn't connect much to the characters, I'll still keep reading more by this author.
