Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

A few months back, I picked up this book because in sixth grade I was in love with it. The eleven year old in me saw it sitting on a shelf in Barnes & Noble, and I couldn't resist the impulse to buy it.

That being said, I don't regret picking it up again. In sixth grade I fell in love with this impossible girl who made her name being different. Who designed herself as she was rather than truly conforming to how society wanted her to be. That love made me hesitant to read the book once more, as I was scared that my feelings about the characters would change.

Jerry Spinelli does something amazing with this piece of literature. In 186 short pages, he makes his reader fall in love with two characters and he rips that same reader apart. Regardless, the reader wants more. Six years later I still wanted more.

I finished the novel in one sitting, driving home from Albany today, and it left me with a deep ache. I highly suggest it to anyone who wants something quick but beautiful. If you pick up this book, you won't regret it.
