Moon Rising by Tui T. Sutherland

4.0

This is a strong start to the next set of five! I remember reading the description and thinking, "Oh, they're giving NightWings prophetic powers again? That's a little disappointing," because I thought that it went too dramatically against everything established in the first series. But almost immediately after starting this book, the change made sense, and when the reason why was conclusively established later on, I was satisfied because it had been hinted at so strongly.

The new characters are wonderful, and they blend well into a mix of old favorites: Tamarin, Kinkajou, Qibli, Sunny, Peril... I absolutely flew through this book (dragon pun intended), and I can't wait to start the next! The pacing is great, and I love the formatting choice to bold the dialogue Moon has with the mysterious voice inside her head. It's always clear who's the speaker and whether they're talking out loud or in their head.

"Moon Rising" ends on a slight cliffhanger, so I am eager to get my hands on the next installment; but it also solves enough of the problems introduced that I don't feel like the story ended prematurely or "just as things were getting good." This entire story was captivating from start to finish, and I hope the later books continue this trend!
