This book started off so strong and I absolutely loved the 2010s teen literature renaissance vibes it was giving; a strong capable female lead, enemies to lovers plot, a chosen one character arc - gah, it was immaculate. Then it just petered out.
I don’t know why for certain, but it’s didn’t love the romance focus or the general direction of the plot. Even the final plot twist just felt a little meh. Maybe I just struggled because I was listening to the audio version and got distracted, but even so I just feel the potential wasn’t fulfilled by the plot. Maybe this is all a blessing in disguise as I don’t feel the need to continue the series anytime soon if ever (much to the relief of my growing TBR pile).
P.s. why is she ok with having an inheritance left by an oil baron that was otherwise to be given to charity? Those morals are not moral-ling.
