Louise Erdrich very rarely writes villains, and there are none in this book. Everyone is whole, full of flaws and charms, enraging and endearing (some more one way than the other, it's true). Wonderfully, richly written. It's about climate, marriage, and trauma, and at the same time it's not - it's about the people entwined in all of that. I'm used to Erdrich narrating her own books, but this one was done skillfully by Marin Ireland - a favorite narrator of mine, so a great pairing.
