A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout
3.75

This is fine. It has its really great moments, which is why I gave it the rating I did, but it also has some points that either I was confused or I felt were unnecessary. The relationship between Nyktos and Serafina is wonderful. Their journey makes complete sense to me, so the romance beats in their relationship hit better for me.

My main complaint is that this is too long. My focus started to drift a bit in the middle, and I had to keep telling myself to pay attention. I can’t really give a good example of what should be removed, which would imply it is all important, but at the same time I’ve already forgotten whole chunks of the plot, and I just finished reading it.

I do like Nyktos and Serafina better than I like Poppy and Casteel. And for that alone, I’ll continue the series.

I also think reading the 2 series in publication order (intermingling the series) is the only way that any of them will make sense. Which I find to be detrimental towards recommending this to people to read, because who wants to commit to this many books if they only have a passing interest in one of the series.
