A River in Darkness: One Man's Escape from North Korea by Masaji Ishikawa
5.0
wow. Western countries often paint North Korea as a hell on earth, but as history shows, it’s always worse than what one on the outside could imagine. This book is a raw story of his journey in a utopia of falsehoods.
To say that this author is strong would be an injustice to the struggles that he has faced throughout his life. The extent of his loss and grief is absolutely heartbreaking to read. I’m incredibly grateful for his vulnerability in this book.
