The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

4.0

This was my first Nicholas Sparks book but I've been a big fan of the movies based on his books so I had a rough idea of what I was getting.

I devoured the book and finished it in two days. It was engrossing, heart felt and not mushy and corny as I found other love stories to be.

It may just be me but I like love stories better when men write them - they seem to take a more realistic approach to relationships (David Nicholls for example) rather than the fantastical one than some women I've read (that over-arching love can defeat anything attitude). I love love stories where people are challenged, not everything is sunshine and no one is perfect. Albeit, Sparks' characters in this book were more in the "good" column but the story was solid without being fluffy.

I'd recommend it if you're in the mood for a good romantic beach read that doesn't involve awkward sex scenes. Am I the only one that doesn't like sex in her books? It's never written well!
