Dark Side of the Catalogue by Amelia Spencer

4.0

Low fantasy once again meets dark academia in “Dark Side of the Catalogue” (2025), the third book in Amelia Spencer’s “The Librarians” series, in which we delve ever deeper into the inner workings of the catalogues of both The Central Library and its arch-rival, Foundation, now headed by main character Emerson Blackwell.

From somewhat rocky beginnings in “Secrets of the Catalogue” (2023), author Amelia Spencer seems to have hit her stride and is confidently expanding her fictional universe inside the books of these two rivaling libraries and their catalogues. I was perhaps not entirely convinced by “Secrets of the Catalogue” though intrigued enough to continue with the series through both “Foundation” and now “Dark Side of the Universe”, and it has paid off. I’m thoroughly enjoying the ride and look forward to discovering the fates of Emerson, her love interests Silas and Adrien as well as a continuously growing cast of side characters.

If you enjoy a fast-paced read in a low fantasy setting involving extremely hardcore librarians, this series is very good bet.
