The critique of stan culture and celebrity worship is good. It really calls out the insanity and unhealthy lives of the online and parasocial relationships with celebs. It feels flat overall though—in part bc japanese-to-english translation inevitably ends up stiff and hollow, and also cuz there’s no drama. It’s just a peek into the mind of a j-pop stan. It could’ve done more (been more like the synopsis) but it’s one of the first books to depict how those ppl think and act in the day of social media.
Graphic: Mental illness, Vomit
Moderate: Stalking
Minor: Blood
