The Comfort of Crows: A Backyard Year
by Margaret Renkl
inspiring
reflective
medium-paced
This book is an ode to, and a warning for, our natural world. Renkl writes with so much care for the living things around her, and with such immediacy, that the “weeks” (chapters) fly by. She reminds us of all the worlds that exist in our backyards. Her idea that we often only perceive the “middle” of a natural cycle has stuck with me especially.
It would be interesting to read this book over the course of a year, one chapter per week, to follow the seasons with Renkl. I also think her lawn- and pesticide-loving neighbours should read it 😈
