Life Ceremony: Stories
by Sayaka Murata
dark
reflective
fast-paced
Each short story brought a beautiful perspective to often taboo topics, especially of Japanese culture.
There is a beauty to each of these stories. At first, when reading them it gave me the chills of how unnatural this is but who gets to decide what is natural? The author integrates the taboo topic into modern-day society so naturally that it doesn't seem like anything is wildly different about the world except that one thing. Beautifully crafted stories that also bring a shock factor to them.

"I mean, normal is a type of madness, isn't it? I think it's just that the only madness society allows is called normal."
