This is much darker than any of the Kate Daniels or Hidden Legacy books and doesn't have the snarky humor that lightens those series. If I hadn't been told parts of the story would play into the Inn Keeper series which I really am excited to read I would have stopped this 3 or 4 different times. It's my first non 5 star rating of the 16 books + the novellas I've devoured int he last few weeks by IA.
