This is the book upon which The Parent Trap is based. My mother gave it to me, having read Das doppelte Lottchen when she was a little girl, and I loved it as a child, too. I recently bought a replacement copy (it is out of print) on Amazon. I love it- the images of Lisa's pancakes and going to the opera stick in my head.

The story is more sober (it dates from 1949)than the films but it is still a delightful children's book. Kastner's Emil and The Detectives is also lovely.
