Foucault in Warsaw by Remigiusz Ryzinski

5.0

"The hero of this book is Michel Foucault.
But not only him. It's Warsaw, too.
And also the boys whose company Foucault enjoyed most." - Remigiusz RyziƄski, tr. Sean Gasper Bye

I thought this was a really great deep dive into Polish (especially Warsaw) gay culture in the mid 20th century. The form--Polish reportage--is really intriguing as it lays bare the research process. I was also impressed with translator Sean Gasper Bye's ability to render Polish slang, especially that revolving around queer culture from a different historic period, into English. Great translation, great read!
