The Midnight Palace by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
2.0

there are two things in life you cannot choose. the first is your enemies; the second your family.

so, i have a problem with this niebla "series". and that problem is that this is not a series.

i really hate it when books that have nothing to do with each other are considered a series, mostly because i'm just so clueless that i'll go through the second book i pick up actively seeking out a connection to the first one only to end up disappointed in that regard and unable to consider and appreciate the second book as the standalone that it should've been.

what is even worse is that, not only is this is no way related to the book "the prince of mist", but it is also worse, in pretty much every sense.

lastly, and while no one will ever be able to say that zafon isn't a brilliant writer, i just felt like the plot was predictable and, perhaps what kept me from enjoying this the most, i just don't think i have the patience for young adult adventure books anymore, as much as i hate to admit it.

overall, i'm just annoyed with this.
