Vita Nova by Louise Glück

dark emotional funny inspiring mysterious reflective sad slow-paced

3.75

This short collection of poems by Louise Gluck has a decent amount of variety, and the poems are in my experience generally fairly dense but not inaccessible. There are a lot of ideas in most of them, and they require rereading. The collection is diverse thematically but I noticed themes of repetition, aging, grief, death, loneliness, evolution, naivete, growth, and pessimism. There were several poems I wasn't crazy about, especially ones that fixate on Greek history, and some that I thought were okay but had good parts, and maybe a handful that I thought were excellent all the way through.
