Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson

4.0

this book was exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. it was fast paced and fun, and I loved how the beginning got right into the plot and didn’t spend much time lingering on explanations/background info. we got all of that as the action was happening. the dual povs allows the reader to patch things together before the characters which is something I loved.

the world building had political intrigue and complexity, but was explained clearly for the reader to understand and follow along.

kazi and jase are such well written characters. I loved the tension and banter between them, as they’re both unyielding and will do anything to protect what they believe in. the similarities between their characters often caused them to butt heads as they fought for different sides, but that allowing for contrast as well.

my only critic about this was how in the political aspect there was an obvious right side, making it incredibly annoying and frustrating to have to read about jase and his defensiveness of his “rightful” land. his argument made no further progress then that, making it achingly obvious as to who was right.
