Tremayne did a great job of building uncertainty in this book and leaving me totally in the dark about who was who, who to believe and what was actually happening. Unfortunately, I just didn't care about the characters. Both Angus and Sarah seemed really hollow (which is fair considering they'd just lost a daughter), but it made for characters that I didn't connect to or even sympathize with. I wanted things to turn out for them, but I found myself far more torn apart by something bad happening to the dog than anything else in the book, which is not the ideal situation in a book like this one.
