Sweet Shadows by Tera Lynn Childs

It has taken me a while to actually get round to reading Sweet Shadows. I received it at a blogger event earlier on this year, but the constant influx of requested review books meant I had to focus on them, and not books I received from events which is a shame as I have some great books waiting to be read, and Sweet Shadows was one of them. I have been desperate to find out what happened next with the girls after finishing Sweet Venom, and Sweet Shadows picks up were Sweet Venom left off, and literally starts of in an explosive way.
Like its previous counterpart, Sweet Shadows has chapters from all three girls, ensuring we once again get the full picture about what is going on and why. While I love all the girls and their chapters, I think I love Grace just that bit more, and that is purely for her OCD tendencies, I can see bits of myself in her.
Sweet Shadows brings more danger for the girls. The guardians have been taken, and now the girls must fight the monsters that are constantly arriving while also try to find out who is taking the guardians, why, and where they are. The girls must work together and find a way to bring them back. The girls are also struggling to keep their 'human' side of themselves seperate from the mythical side, and as the number of monster arrivals increases, so does the risk of their worlds colliding. Each girl has to deal with it in their own way, but it can't be done forever, and one way or another the truth has to be told.
As I am writing this review, it has suddenly struck me how quickly these girls have managed to find a way to work as part of a team. Most people grow up with their siblings, especially triplets, and I forgot that these three have literally all just discovered each other, and two of them only just finding out who they really are. The way they work together, even the usual bickering between siblings, feels like that have been together for years.
Sweet Shadows was a quick read for me, but with the constant disappearances always around the corner it certainly doesn't lack in action. Each new chapter had more unanswered questions, and a hint or two about what was really going on. The girls are also split up, so we get to see how they cope without the third girl at their side. This was not something I expected, but it also lets us see other sides to the two girls left, and that although they are new to their gifts, they are fast learners, and can stand up for themselves if the need arises. It's been a while since I read the first book, Sweet Venom, but it was easy to jump straight back into the world Tera has created. I found myself easily remembering which girl was which, what their ability was and their history. As the plot thickens I found myself falling deeper into the story and the world within the pages. There were a few moments were I thought WTF, and coud have happily seen a character or two killed off. The ending came far too soon, and the only advantage I can see for me reading Sweet Shadows so late is that I am not left waiting a long time to read the final book in this series.
