The Haunting of Peligan City by Sophie Green

4.0

4.5 stars!

this sequel is very effective because it plays up the strengths of the first one while also fixing the weaker aspects. an example: it was established in the first book that peligan city is super corrupt, but the reasons it got like that and the impact it has on the citizens were explained better in this one. it made the worldbuilding feel more solid.
and as to playing its strengths, the haunting of peligan city keeps the creepy vibe that made its predecessor work so well and multiplies it by five. the result is a faster moving, higher stakes, darker story with a climactic scene that is (once again) insane for how hard it goes.
