My first Toni Morrison! The subject matters brought up were horrific and uncomfortable at times, but Morrison's writing was absolutely phenomenal and I couldn't put my copy of the book down. I was very surprised that people didn't like how disjointed the different point of views were; I really enjoyed the jumps between different states of narrations and the different perspectives on Pecola. The one time we get a passage implied to be from Pecola's point of view, it is so disturbing, but so heartbreaking that a young girl believes so ardently that attaining white beauty will erase the cruelty she faces in her daily life. I just really love how Morrison writes; cannot wait to pick up some of her other works in the near future :)

Oh also, I want to stress that you should really look over trigger warnings before you read this book as it covers a lot of highly sensitive and horrific material.
