The Winner's Kiss
by Marie Rutkoski
As with just about every third book in just about every trilogy I ever read, this one needed a more heavy-handed editor, and as such, I wound up skimming much of the ending. I'm not a big fan of the whole trope, because it tends to retread old ground. In this case, it made some sense because the central pairing had some major communication issues in the previous book, so there was a whole lot of air to clear. Still, I think I prefer my air cleared by, you know, actually productive conversations. I did, however, enjoy how much time they gave Roshar in this installment, and wish that they had given more time to other interesting secondary characters, like Sarsine, Verex, and Risha, who helped make the world feel more real and lived in.
