The Kingdoms
by Natasha Pulley
Picked this us up because I saw it very highly recommended by an author I love. Definitely a fascinating and creative novel. Time travel is not usually my thing so I may have loved it more if I was into those types of stories. The bouncing between timelines can get a little confusing but Pulley does a good job of making it clear. The book begins in a 1900 Londres or London that exists in a timeline where France controls England. This concept is what hooked me and kept me going as well as the kind of vague romantic subplot between Joe and Kite, which becomes more apparent as the book goes on. I also think I would loved this more had the author done an epilogue. By the time things are resolved and Joe and Kite are back together, the book ends. I would have loved some more detail after that point. Definitely recommend if you love the “love across time” or time travel trope!
