The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan
4.0

"I remember something Marcus Aurelius used to tell his son, a quote that later became famous in his Meditations book: Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what's left and live it properly. What doesn't transmit light creates its own darkness."

At this rate, I’m going to be reading Percy Jackson new releases to my grand-kids, but if they keep bringing this level of quality, I’m fine with that.

This novel was a vast improvement over the one before it. The plot was better, we got a healthy dose of Leo Valdez, and I just enjoyed it more. Apollo was less irritating whiny baby, and more hilariously whiny tween. My only serious complaint is not enough Solangelo. I need my ray of sunshine and his personal storm cloud. 

The pop culture references in these books seem to be getting a bit out of hand, but maybe that’s just me. I’ve always been biased toward pop songs; how can you not be when there’s this thing called musicals?

His books grow progressively diverse, and do a phenomenal job of staying on top of modern times in that aspect. You’ll be hard pressed to find middle grade novels with this level of representation, humor, and fantasy adventure. Seriously.

All in all, solid addition to a solid series.
