I was hearing about this book constantly and people seem to really like it. It's a tricky one to review because the novel itself and the plot is lacking, the story is very slow and there's a lot of loose ends.
It is very strong on social commentary regarding gender in Japan, especially around the beauty standards placed on women and I did find this interesting.
I found the book far too long, I think it could have been half the length.
