Foolish Hearts
by Emma Mills
4 stars. aka: the human equivalent of wearing your favorite sweater while watching a high school play and falling in love with the sunshine boy who knows all the lines.
this book? comfy. like serotonin with a side of glitter glue and soft indie music. you open the first page and you’re already under a weighted blanket of good vibes and “omg this is so me” moments. claudia?? queen of internal monologue, social awkwardness, and Not Wanting to Get Involved™. i’ve never related to a protagonist more deeply unless you count marianne sheridan having a breakdown in silence.
and gideon??? GIDEON. sweet, golden retriever energy wrapped in a boy who’s probably never been mean in his life. he talks to everyone, has big theater kid confidence, and still manages to not be annoying? rare. we stan a man who’s confident and emotionally available. literally the anti-red flag.
also: queer rep?? real friendships?? awkward school projects and unexpected growth?? it’s giving 2010s tumblr but healed. it’s giving the warm fuzzies with ✨depth✨.
