The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown

emotional informative inspiring fast-paced

4.0

What a deeply readable, engrossing biography. I couldn't stop reading The Boys in the Boat, and I'll definitely pick up a Brown work again.

Not a full 5/5 for me because Brown has moments of filtering the American past through a "good old days" lens, if ever so slightly, and those days in question were definitely not as golden if you weren't white or able-bodied. But overall, The Boys in the Boat was satisfying and at times soaring, and it made me strap into my gym's rowing machine... but just for 10 minutes, because I'm not a glutton for punishment. George Yeoman Pocock would likely be disappointed in me.
