Beyond Secret Worlds: Nine Tales of Paranormal Fantasy and Romance by Aimee Easterling
3.0
Ten short stories set up as tasters to expose a reader to new Paranormal Fantasy and Romance writers. Each short story is set in a world where a novel or series is set, with all the short stories working as stand-alones as well as introductions. Sometimes they feature established characters, sometimes side-characters, sometimes they predate the novels, sometimes parallel and sometimes give insight to things on the side.
As with all anthologies, the writing is uneven. The first few are great, a couple toward the end weak, and the final one is a blowout.
Tough as Nails by Aimee Easterling (Alpha Underground Short Story)
Dark Intent by Lisa Swallow (Between Short Story)
Lust at First Sight by Katie Salida (Moonlight Prequel)
Not a Witch by Debbie Herbert (Appalachian Short Story)
Black Friday by Kate Corcino (Progenitor Universe - prequel short story)
Blue House Magic by Catherine Stine (Fireseed Short Story)
Dreams' End by LG Castillo (Broken Angel Short Story)
The Hex by Lucy Leroux (Cursed Short Story)
Take Me by Susan Stec (A Purgatory Novella)
