The Ghosts of Belfast by Stuart Neville
5.0
I am not sure where I came upon this book--- but I love books that take place in Ireland....and I have a soft spot for books that work around the Troubles as I studied a lot of the history at my first internship at NDI. This is the story of a man, a hired killer for the Republicans....who leaves jail with a different view of the world. He can see the people he killed--- and in order to quiet his mind (and conscious) he sets out to please them and avenge their deaths. The story is quite original, gory--- and a bit too descriptive (for this wimp) in parts, but I greatly enjoyed reading the book---- and was shocked to see/learn how corrupt Irish society has become (hopefully this part was fictions!) I couldn't help but root for the killer and hope he found solitude and peace by the end of the book...
