The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

4.0

"The world is a weird and wonderful place. Why must we try and explain it all away? For our personal satisfaction?"

We follow Linus Baker, a case worker for the Department in charge of magical youth. His job is to visit government-sanctioned orphanages that house magical youth and make sure that the children are being well cared for. He lives a simple and secluded life with his odd cat and his music records. He sticks to the book, no matter what, and does whatever the government tells him to do.

His big bosses summon him from his quiet, solitary life to send him on a top secret assignment on an island far from his home. On this island is an orphanage with the most unusual and dangerous inhabitants in the world, or so he's told.

Over the course of his visit he discovers many curious things, many secrets and he learns a whole lot about the world, himself, and what he's missing in life.

This book, much like the other TJ Klune books I've read, made me FEEL things deeply. This cast of characters basically flew off the page into my imagination. There was humor, and adventure, and mystery, and love. Found family at it's finest.

What does Linus do when faced with injustices in his world? How does one find happiness and even love in extremely difficult times? Well, as Brandon Sanderson would say..

READ AND FIND OUT!

If you're looking for a book that has all the faith in humanity's good nature, even with all the ugliness that comes with it.. this is the one. A charming, heart warming and extremely fun read.
