The Engagement Party by Darby Kane

3.0

It has all the familiar tropes:
- isolated setting
- group of close knit friends who are bound by secrets and past trauma
- lured to an island for revenge

I’m glad I kept a character list because just like in And Then There Were None there are quite a few friends to keep up with. Emily Hunt went missing from her affluent liberal arts school on graduation weekend. Her body was found floating in a river, and a quiet loner who most people on campus really didn't know died by suicide. A tenuous link—one text—bound the two dead students together and was enough for law enforcement to close the case. Now 12 years later a circle of college friends have gathered to celebrate the engagement of Will and Ruthie on a private island cut off by the tide. Before the festivities start a dead man is found inside a totaled car in the garage. But who is the man and how did he get there? As the group races to figure out what’s going on they stumble across more clues that prove someone there has nefarious intentions. As the story continues to unfold you don’t know who to trust and realize everyone seems to be hiding something.
