I truly don’t understand what Ferrante was looking for readers to get out of this. Sure, the writing is pretty at times but what is below the surface? Nothing that wows. This book read like still, standing water without a lush and vibrant ecosystem inhabiting it. How this book leads a 4-book series, I’ll never understand.
