The Ascent Of Rum Doodle by W.E. Bowman
4.0
I've never read an account of a mountaineering expedition - or any kind of expedition - but I imagine it would be hard to take a for-realsies account seriously after reading this brief but hilarious parody. This is also apparently an example of British surrealism? However you want to classify it, this was a lovely, entertaining story told in the voice of a blissfully unaware and well-intentioned fool.
For my own reference, I chose to buy this book for two reasons: it was lauded by someone who was interviewed in the wonderful nonfiction work The Bookshop Book, which I happened to be reading at the same time I was in London and came across the gorgeous limited edition made specifically for Hatchards with fabulous cover art and endpapers.
