Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki

5.0

Laura Dean is the beautiful queer story I needed when I was growing up. This graphic covers so many important issues like sexuality, abortion, and relationships in such a meaningful and accessible way. The closeness of the story on the protagonist, Freddy, is endearing. We get even closer to Freddy with the interwoven snippets of her emails to an advice column of sorts. You truly get to grow with this character, watching her make mistakes and screw up to the point where you almost lose faith in her, just to watch her figure it all out and make a breakthrough. It was the perfect amount of sad and happy tied up in a realistic story. Not to mention the graphics were stellar and gorgeous!
