A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow
by George R.R. Martin
I'll start by saying I enjoyed this so much more than A Clash of Kings. There was a lot more forward movement for each character’s arc and less stagnation in their development, not only in their setting, but also in their personal growth. I especially loved the perspectives of Arya, in the case of her adventures with the brotherhood, and Jon. The inner turmoil of each of them was heartfelt and well written.
Though I’m sure I would have liked the books far more if I did not already know what was going to happen, I do still savour the details left out of the show, especially those to do with the history of houses. I’m also able to understand motives and the logic of each character more fully as I read the inner workings of their minds and can better see what lead to their demise.
7/10, can’t wait for the next.
