The Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1: Coming Home by J. Michael Straczynski

3.0

Blasted through this collection in a single sitting, and I liked it just fine. I love the idea of Peter becoming a teacher (surprise!) and his desire to make science engaging for the kids. The conversation he has with Ezekiel is interesting in that it attempts to explain why most of Spider-Man's villains have some animalistic connection. I'm interested to see if this goes anywhere in future installments. The big bad here, Morlun, is fairly uninteresting. He's got a horror-film vibe about him, with his grey skin, his long, dark black hair, and his stoic promises to never stop pursuing his target until he captures him. Lots of big ideas that were set up that feel ripe for harvesting in later issues. I hope it pays off.
