The Inquisitor's Tale: Or, the Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog by Adam Gidwitz
Did not finish book. Stopped at 31%.
I don't know. It felt like a slog. All I knew about this was that it was a story like The Canterbury Tales but for a younger audience. I am currently also reading the CTs. Honestly, the only thing it has in common is that the book is broken up by people in an Inn telling various parts of it. Which I found annoying. I normally don't have a problem with books that experiment with format, but for some reason in this one, I found it grating. I think it was because it was one story and every time I'd start getting into it, it would get interrupted for no particular reason. I don't have the patience for it at this point in my life.
I also was kind of shocked about the violence in the donkey scene with William. And I read a lot of true crime. I am not one for shielding children completely from evils of the world, but I was just going along and BAM! there it was. Part of the shock was that it was so unexpected.
Add to that that the voices of the Narrators didn't feel very different and the aspect of the magical little old lady and I honestly just didn't find myself caring enough to continue. I have a history of slogging through something I don't like just to get through it, but I wasn't feeling it with this one.
