Women in Art: 50 Fearless Creatives Who Inspired the World by Rachel Ignotofsky

4.0

Insightful, concise nonfiction that can be read by all ages, or flipped through on a coffee table, I use books like this mostly as a jumping off point where I get a snapshot of what they and their art looks like and then I fall down my own rabbit holes. If you are interested in learning more about art, and women in art then I would definitely recommend. I do wish we had gone a little past women born in the 50s, as I understand younger women have often made less impact on the world as their career has been shorter and you risk becoming obsolete but I felt that I followed through the generations of these women only to stop three generations short of now, we have the arts that started in the 90s, 2000s, 10s who have already made a huge impact on art and the world, and as someone whose older than the target audience I feel the gap between the youngest of these women and myself. The world they grew up looks very different than mine did forty years later. I think we can stretch at least to artists born in the 70s without defining people too early, as these women show there are amazing artists who don't even live to their forties (and some who start in their seventies).

Overall, brilliant and inspirational.
